This borough feels the least like New York City. With its residential
character (mostly homes) and heavily white population, it's more suburban
than urban, filled with refugees fleeing an increasingly multicultural
Brooklyn and Queens. There is a small African-American community dating
to Civil War times, and Staten Island has a few small museums plus a
Colonial restoration.
The main attraction here is the Staten Island Ferry. Running between
the South Ferry Terminal at the foot of Manhattan and the island, it
offers wonderful views of Governor's Island, the Statue of Liberty,
Ellis Island, New York Harbor, and of course, the Manhattan skyline.
It's free on both sides, so you can't beat the scenery and the price.
